Lett Aux

The Lett Auxiliary is a crossbowman unique to the Teutonic Order. He is much like the Gascon Crossbowman, in that he has comparativley small bonuses against infantry and rams. However, Letts have longer range, like the Genoese Crossbowmen, but are also quite inaccurate.

Commentary/Strategy[]

The Teutonic Order's archer unit, Lett Auxiliaries can be seen as an improved version of the English Gascon units. Besides a greater range, their advantage lies in the comparatively low costs of florins. As long as there is wood, this unit can be massed quite easily to support the Teutonic infantry or to keep an enemy's infantry at bay.

Letts carry an anti-infantry bonus, but like the Gascons' this is very small. Another problem is the fact that while its silver cost is low, it still costs silver and has to compete with heavier, more glamorous units for resources. Fortunately, many of these units will still be seen as it remains the Order's only ranged non-siege unit.

Historical Background[]

Having been former enemies, local Lett crossbowmen now serving the Teutonic Order were equipped with more powerful weapons.
